Mega-solar power projects for sustainability in Qatar
Samsung C&T of South Korea was recently given a sizable solar energy power plant contract by Qatar Energy Renewable Solutions. Samsung will construct two massive photovoltaic (PV) plants under the QAR 2.3 billion (USD 630 million) Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract in the industrial cities of Ras Laffan (RLIC) and Mesaieed (MIC). Each plant will have a total area of ten square kilometers and an 875 megawatt capacity. By 2024, the Industrial Cities solar power project (IC Solar) is anticipated to boost Qatar's capacity to generate renewable energy to 1.675 gigawatts.
